Why RoamZivo for Africa

Cape Town

Works in Cape Town

One eSIM for Cape Town and every other covered country, 21 in all. It joins the local partner network in each one by itself.

Skip the rental counter

No pocket Wi-Fi or SIM counter to find when you land, and nothing to return before you fly home. The eSIM is installed before you leave.

Share with your laptop

Hotspot is allowed on the plan selected above, so a second device can use the same data in a cafe or a hotel room.

Which countries does the Africa eSIM cover?

The Africa eSIM works in every country listed here. Your phone joins a local network in each one by itself. Tap a country to see its own plans.

How to get connected

Step by step guide
  1. Check your phone

Your phone must be eSIM compatible and not locked to one carrier.

  2. Install at home

Scan the QR code on WiFi before you fly. Your days do not start yet.

  3. Switch on when you land

Choose the RoamZivo line for mobile data and turn on data roaming for it.

  4. Stay online

Watch your data in My eSIMs and top up the same eSIM if you need more.

Africa travel data guide

A Africa eSIM from RoamZivo is a prepaid data plan for travel across 21 countries that you install before you fly. Plans run on partner networks in 21 countries, with 5G where the operator offers it. The eSIM is data only, so your own SIM stays in for calls and texts.

There are 17 plans to choose from across 21 countries. Data sizes run from 1 GB to 20 GB, validity from 1 to 30 days, and prices start at $8.99. Unlimited plans are listed too, each with its own fair use line. Hotspot sharing is supported on every plan. These plans do not offer top ups, so buy a new plan if you run low.

Your days start the first time the eSIM connects in the countries covered, not when you buy, so you can install it at home days early. For a week of maps, messaging and social apps, most travellers are fine with 3 to 5 GB. Video calls or streaming need more, or an unlimited plan. Travel data across the countries covered from RoamZivo arrives as a QR code by email, with a copy kept in your account.

Africa FAQ

Does the eSIM work in every country covered?

It works in each of the countries listed, 21 in all. In each one it connects wherever the partner networks have signal, which are the same networks local customers use. The eSIM is data only.

When do my days start?

On the first connection in the countries covered, not at purchase. The plan selected above (3 GB) runs for 30 days from that moment. You can install the eSIM at home and the clock stays still until you connect.

Do I get a local phone number?

No. The eSIM is data only. Your own SIM stays in for calls and texts, and WhatsApp keeps working over the eSIM data.

Can I share data with my laptop?

Yes. Hotspot sharing is supported on the plan selected above, so your laptop or tablet can use the eSIM data through your phone.

Does the Africa eSIM work in South Africa?

No, South Africa is not one of the 21 countries on the Africa plan. If your trip includes it, you need a separate plan for that part. The countries covered in the south are Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

How many GB do I need for a month across several African countries?

For a month across several African countries, 10 GB suits regular use of maps, messages and browsing, and 20 GB suits heavier use. The Africa plans cannot be topped up, so it is safer to buy one size larger than you think you need.

Is there a 30 day unlimited plan for Africa?

No, unlimited Africa plans are sold for 1, 3 or 7 days only. For a longer trip, use a fixed 30 day plan of up to 20 GB. Some single country pages do have longer unlimited plans, if you are staying in one place.

Do I need to do anything when I cross a border?

No new install is needed when you cross into another covered country. Keep the eSIM line on with data roaming enabled, and the phone should register on a local network. If it does not connect after a few minutes, restart the phone.

When do the days start on the Africa plan?

The days start when the eSIM first connects to a network in any of the 21 covered countries. They do not start when you buy or install. After that first connection the days run continuously until the plan ends.

Why is my unlimited Africa plan so slow?

You have most likely passed the daily full speed amount. Depending on the plan, speed then drops to at most 1 Mbps or at most 384 Kbps until the next day. The plan details state which applies. Full speed returns the following day.

Can I top up the Africa eSIM?

No, top up is not available on any Africa plan. When your data or days run out, you buy a new plan and install it. For that reason, pick your plan size with a margin before you leave.

How do I top up if I run low?

The plan selected above does not offer top ups. Buy a new plan from this page instead and install it as a second eSIM.
