How it works

How does a travel eSIM work?

A travel eSIM is a prepaid data plan you download to your phone with a QR code. Install it on WiFi at home and switch it on when you land.

How to use an eSIM abroad in four steps

The first three steps happen at home, and the last one waits until you land.

  1. Choose a plan

Search for your destination, then choose the data amount and number of days that suit the trip. Every plan shows its price before you pay.

    5 GB · 30 days from $5.99. 10 GB · 30 days from $7.99.
  2. Pay and get your QR code

Pay at checkout and the QR code comes to you by email. A copy stays in your account in case the message goes missing.

You will see: an email with your QR code.
  3. Install it over WiFi

Open your phone settings, add an eSIM and scan the code. The days on your plan do not start counting yet.

You will see: a second line in Settings, not yet active.
  4. Switch it on when you land

Turn on data roaming for the eSIM line. The days on your plan begin when it first connects to a network there.

You will see: bars and 4G or 5G next to RoamZivo.
Step 3 in detail

Installing the eSIM before your trip

Do it at home on WiFi the evening before you fly. The eSIM waits on your phone unused, so installing early takes nothing off the days you paid for.

Your phone needs an internet connection to download the eSIM, which is why home is the easy place.
Your own SIM stays in the phone and keeps your number for calls and texts.
Keep data roaming off on the eSIM line until you arrive, then turn it on.
Not sure about your phone? Dial *#06# and look for an EID number.

What to know before you buy

When do the days on my plan start?

They start when the eSIM first connects to a network at your destination. Buying or installing early changes nothing.

Does a travel eSIM replace my number?

No, it is data only and has no number. Your own SIM stays in the phone for calls and texts.

Can I use it as a hotspot?

That depends on the plan you choose. Each plan page says whether hotspot is allowed, so check it before you buy.

What if I run out of data?

Where a plan offers top up, you buy more data in your account. It goes onto the eSIM you already have.

What is an eSIM, and other common questions

Still unsure? Email support.

What is an eSIM?

An eSIM is a SIM built into your phone, so there is no plastic card to fit. You add a plan to it by scanning a QR code, and your own SIM stays where it is.

Will my phone work with a travel eSIM?

It will if the phone supports eSIM and is carrier unlocked. Dial *#06# and look for an EID number, then find your model on the compatible devices page.

Can I install the eSIM after I land?

Yes, but the phone needs an internet connection to download it, so you would have to find WiFi first. Installing at home is easier.

Can I install one eSIM on two phones?

No, each QR code installs on one device only. A second traveller needs their own plan, or you can share data over hotspot where your plan allows it.

Do I have to take out my own SIM?

No, leave it in. The eSIM runs next to your own SIM, which keeps your number working.
