Why RoamZivo for Italy

Rome

Works in Rome

Rome is where most visitors to Italy head first. The plan connects there and in the other main towns on TIM, Iliad and Wind.

Skip the rental counter

No pocket Wi-Fi or SIM counter to find when you land in Italy, and nothing to return before you fly home. The eSIM is installed before you leave.

Share with your laptop

Hotspot is allowed on the plan selected above, so a second device can use the same data in a cafe or a hotel room.

How to get connected

Step by step guide
  1. Check your phone

Your phone must be eSIM compatible and not locked to one carrier.

  2. Install at home

Scan the QR code on WiFi before you fly. Your days do not start yet.

  3. Switch on in Italy

Choose the RoamZivo line for mobile data and turn on data roaming for it.

  4. Stay online

Watch your data in My eSIMs and top up the same eSIM if you need more.

Italy travel data guide

A Italy eSIM from RoamZivo is a prepaid data plan for Italy that you install before you fly. Plans in Italy run on TIM, Iliad and Wind, with 5G where the operator offers it. The eSIM is data only, so your own SIM stays in for calls and texts.

There are 20 plans to choose from. Data sizes run from 1 GB to 50 GB, validity from 1 to 30 days, and prices start at $1.99. Unlimited plans are listed too, each with its own fair use line. Hotspot sharing is supported on every plan. Top ups are available on some of the fixed data plans and go onto the same eSIM.

Visiting more than one country? The Europe eSIM covers Italy and 33 other countries on one plan, from $1.99. The Global eSIM covers Italy and 126 other countries on one plan, from $18.99.

Your days start the first time the eSIM connects in Italy, not when you buy, so you can install it at home days early. For a week of maps, messaging and social apps, most travellers are fine with 3 to 5 GB. Video calls or streaming need more, or an unlimited plan. Travel data in Italy from RoamZivo arrives as a QR code by email, with a copy kept in your account.

Italy FAQ

Does the eSIM work everywhere in Italy?

It connects wherever TIM, Iliad and Wind have signal, which is the same network local customers use. The eSIM is data only.

When do my days start?

On the first connection in Italy, not at purchase. The plan selected above (2 GB) runs for 15 days from that moment. You can install the eSIM at home and the clock stays still until you connect.

Do I get a local phone number in Italy?

No. The eSIM is data only. Your own SIM stays in for calls and texts, and WhatsApp keeps working over the eSIM data.

Can I share data with my laptop?

Yes. Hotspot sharing is supported on the plan selected above, so your laptop or tablet can use the eSIM data through your phone.

Which network will my phone use in Italy?

In Italy the eSIM connects to TIM, Iliad or Wind, depending on the plan. All three are listed with 5G, and plans are sold as 4G/5G. If you want one operator in particular, check the plan details before you pay.

Is 5 GB enough for a week in Italy?

5 GB can cover a week in Italy if you mainly use maps and messages and keep video for hotel WiFi. The 5 GB plans last either 1 day or 30 days, so for a week you would buy the 30 day one. If you are unsure, the unlimited plan for 7 days removes the question.

Will the Italy eSIM work in Switzerland or France?

No, the Italy plan works in Italy only. For a trip that crosses into Switzerland or France you need the Europe eSIM, which covers 34 countries including both. It is a separate plan with its own QR code.

When does my Italy plan start?

Your Italy plan starts when the eSIM first connects to a network in Italy. The purchase date and the install date do not count. A 15 day plan installed a week before the flight still has all 15 days when you land.

How do I get the QR code for my Italy eSIM?

The QR code for your Italy eSIM is sent by email once payment goes through. A copy is kept in your customer account, so you can find it again if the email goes missing. Scan it over WiFi before you travel.

Can I use hotspot with the Italy eSIM?

Yes, hotspot is allowed on all Italy plans, so you can share data with a laptop, a tablet or someone travelling with you. Everything shared is counted against your plan. On unlimited plans it also counts toward the daily amount of 1 GB or 3 GB at full speed.

What if the eSIM does not connect when I land in Italy?

First check that the eSIM line is turned on and selected for mobile data, then go through the installation guide again. If it still will not connect in Italy, email support. They answer seven days a week, and the refund policy is published on the site.

How do I top up if I run low?

The plan selected above does not offer top ups. Buy a new plan from this page instead and install it as a second eSIM.
